When Dave — the owner of a small plumbing business based in Isleworth — first came to us, his online presence was effectively zero. No website, no Google Business Profile, nothing. All of his work came through word of mouth and the occasional leaflet drop. He was doing well enough, but he knew he was leaving a significant amount of business on the table.

"I'd Google plumbers myself just to see what came up," he told us in our first meeting. "And there were names I'd never heard of getting all the calls. I knew I needed to sort it."

Here's how we helped him go from invisible to page one.

The Starting Point

When we audited Dave's digital presence, the picture was clear: he didn't have one. There was no website, no Google Business Profile, no social media presence, and no mentions of his business anywhere online. From Google's perspective, he simply didn't exist.

His competitors — other plumbers serving Isleworth, Twickenham, and the surrounding TW7 area — had varying levels of digital presence. Some had basic websites, a couple had claimed their Google Business Profiles, but none of them had done anything particularly strategic. That meant the opportunity to leapfrog the competition with a focused, well-executed approach was very real.

Step One: Building the Website

We started by building Dave a clean, professional website optimised for local search from the ground up. The site included:

  • A homepage clearly describing his services and the areas he covers (Isleworth, Twickenham, Hounslow, Brentford)
  • Individual service pages for plumbing repairs, boiler servicing, bathroom installations, and emergency callouts
  • Location-specific content targeting terms like "plumber in Isleworth TW7" and "emergency plumber near Twickenham"
  • A fast, mobile-optimised design with prominent phone numbers and a simple enquiry form
  • A genuine about page featuring Dave's qualifications and experience

Every page was written with both the reader and the search engine in mind — helpful, credible content that answered the questions real customers were typing into Google.

Step Two: Google Business Profile

We set up and fully optimised Dave's Google Business Profile. This included completing every section of the listing, writing a keyword-rich business description, uploading professional photos of his work, and placing his business in the correct service categories.

We also helped him implement a simple system for requesting reviews from happy customers. Within the first two months, he had accumulated 14 five-star reviews — social proof that would prove invaluable for both rankings and conversions.

Step Three: Local SEO and Citations

We built out Dave's local citation footprint — ensuring his business name, address, and phone number were listed consistently across Yell, Bing Places, Apple Maps, Checkatrade, and a number of other relevant directories. This consistency signals legitimacy to Google and is a core component of local SEO.

We also created a handful of locally-relevant blog posts on his website, covering topics like "how to find a reliable plumber in Isleworth" and "when should I service my boiler?" — content that attracted additional organic traffic and demonstrated expertise.

The Results

Within three months, Dave's website was ranking on page one of Google for "plumber in Isleworth" and several related terms. His Google Business Profile was appearing in the local map pack — the three-business box that appears at the top of local search results — for searches across the TW7 and surrounding postcodes.

By month four, he was receiving over 40 enquiries per month through his website and Google Business Profile combined. His Google reviews grew to 27, all five stars. He had to take on an apprentice to help manage the increased workload.

"I wish I'd done this years ago," he said. "The phone doesn't stop."

What This Tells Us

Dave's story isn't unusual. Across West London, there are skilled, reputable tradespeople and small business owners who are losing customers every day simply because they can't be found online. The good news is that with the right strategy, results like these are achievable — often faster than people expect.
